Illinois Political Appointments
Open Letter to the Precinct DuPage County and Cook County Committeemen About Rafael Rivadeneira and the 21st District Seat
Dear Precinct Committeemen,
I am writing you today regarding the appointment to the 21st District Senate Seat being vacated by Senator Cronin. Although I don’t live in the 21st District, the new person being appointed will have a say on issues that will impact my family and Illinois as a whole.
I respectfully ask you to call 630-792-0040 or email senatorcronin@aol.com and urge Senator Cronin to appoint Rafael Rivadeneira to the seat he will soon vacate.
I have known Rafael for several years and can attest to his strong beliefs on fiscal responsibility, lower taxes and less government intrusion into our lives, among his conservative principles. I am 100% confident Rafael will fight for the taxpayers and will stand up to special interests. Something we desperately need in Illinois.

I’m a small business owner, just like Rafael. We both understand how to say “no” and how to live within our means. Rafael is a young conservative with great innovative ideas on how to cut spending. You can read about Rafael ideas at his website: www.voterafael.com
Rafael Rivadeneira has the skills and the backbone to represent us. He also knows what the voters need in the 21st District. He has knocked on thousands of doors within the 21st District to identify what the voters need.
But people like you and me, who are passionately involved in the political process, fully understand that 2012 is around the corner. It would be naïve for me to ignore the significance of appointing a Hispanic conservative to the Senate. Simply put, we cannot ignore this crucial voter block. As a former president of a Hispanic Republican organization in Illinois and a current vice-president of a National Republican organization, I can’t emphasize enough the meaning of appointing Rafael to the State Senate.
Make no mistake: Rafael has the skills, the passion, the drive and the backbone to represent the 21st District well. But it is important to recognize that he is also a young, energetic, innovative and hard-working Hispanic Conservative.
Senator Cronin, you served the 21st District for several years, your love for public service and the 21st District is evident. I am confident you will appoint the right person for the 21st District you continue to serve. I believe that person is Rafael Rivadeneira, and I respectfully ask you to consider appointing Rafael to the 21st Senate District.
Dear Committeemen, I respectfully ask you to sign Rafael’s petition at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/appointrafaeltostatesenate for the appointment to the State Senate seat and endorse his candidacy
Yours Truly,

Rafael Rivadeneira Seeks Appointment to Illinois’ 21st State Senate Seat
Email from Rafael Rivadeneira dated Thursday, November 11, 2010
To the residents of Illinois’ 21st State Senate District:
At the urging of my supporters from DuPage and Cook counties and even across the state, I have decided to ask to be appointed to the State Senate seat that Senator Dan Cronin will vacate when he takes on his new role as Chair of the DuPage County Board.
Rafael Rivadeneira
After such a great Conservative showing across the country last week, it’s essential that more Conservatives are represented in Springfield. Though Democrats still control both houses in Illinois, this appointment brings an opportunity to look to the future, to capture the new “brand” of Conservatism that energized the nation in this last election cycle.

My Conservative track record is well documented. I have long been a champion of lowering taxes and cutting wasteful spending, as evidenced by the policy positions and new ideas that I’ve put forward as well as my endorsement by Tax Accountability, the political action arm of National Taxpayers United of Illinois.
As the son of immigrants and as an entrepreneur, I understand how to make Illinois a state where businesses thrive and where everyone has meaningful work, much as it was when my parents moved to Chicago after fleeing Communist Cuba. My parents chose Illinois because it was ripe with opportunity to work. Illinois offered them the hope to provide a future for their family. Sadly, Illinois has gone the wrong direction.
I’ve knocked on thousands of doors and talked to thousands of voters throughout this district and I understand the hard times many families are in. Since the days my parents moved here, the people of Illinois have seen jobs fade away, corruption flourish and working families struggle to make ends meet. With fiscal Conservatives in Springfield, Illinois can recapture its place as the Land of Lincoln and a Land of Opportunity.
On my website, I have outlined more than $400 million dollars in budget cuts. I have outlined ways we can cut taxes and bring jobs back to Illinois. I have spelled out clearly what I believe on the most pressing issues. Public servants have a duty to be transparent and honest and upfront about what they believe.
I’m not afraid to fight for what I believe is right or to stand up against what I see as wrong. I’m asking you now to support me as I seek this appointment.
Local Republican Party leaders Sen. Dan Cronin, Comptroller-elect Judy Baar Topinka and Mike Corrigan have the opportunity to appoint anyone of their choosing to this spot. I hope they see that what would be best for this district and all of Illinois would be to appoint a hard-working fresh face with Conservative values—low taxes, less spending, greater opportunity—and with the guts to make a difference.
I ask that you call Sen. Dan Cronin’s office at 630-792-0040 or email him at senatorcronin@aol.com and let him know that you would like to see someone who will work to cut taxes and cut wasteful spending to fill the seat he will vacate. Tell him that you’d like a true fiscal Conservative appointed to that position. Tell him that you would like to see me, Rafael Rivadeneira, as State Senator.
The person who follows Senator Cronin in this seat has big shoes to fill. He’s been a champion of many Conservative causes, from championing more school choice to advocating for more transparency. I’m sure that he’ll carry this with him as he leads the DuPage County Board.
Tea Party Friend John Bambenek Seeks Appointment to 53rd Senate Seat Vacancy
Email from John Bambenek dated November 5, 2010
Friends-
We achieved many great victories this November and sadly a few races
that did not go our way. For that, all of you should be proud of what
we have accomplished. Among other big wins, Illinois has gained a
great State Treasurer in Dan Rutherford. However, we have also lost a
great Senator. As he intends to resign his Senate seat in January, I
wanted you all to be among the first to know that I have asked to be
appointed his replacement.
As many of you know, I’m a strong fiscal and social conservative that
has been active in many causes we all hold dear. Illinois simply
cannot continue spending billions more dollars than we have. Our
pension debt, now the worst in the nation, has become unsustainable.
Those systems will become insolvent by 2018, if not sooner. Illinois
needs a health dose of fiscal sanity that I believe I can help
provide. At the same time, Illinois is a jobs-hostile state. I will
pursue the issues of tort reform as much as possible and more
importantly, strive to bring about reform to worker’s compensation in
Illinois.
For many years, I have also been active in trying to bring
transparency, accountability and reform to Illinois government. I
authored the forensic audit resolution in the Senate and House and
have worked side-by-side with Adam Andrzejewski to promote that issue.
Not only have our finances gone out of control, but under the
Blagojevich years, billions of dollars of secret deals, patronage
promotions and corrupt board appointments were made. And we still do
not know the extent of the fraud, corruption and waste that still
corrupts out state budget and continues forward to this day. There
needs to be an accounting for all those who willingly went along with
Blagojevich’s shady deals.
Several other people have also stepped forward. Some I know better
than others, but mostly they are solid conservatives who hold many of
the same values we all share. Make no mistake, if any of them are
chosen, I believe Illinois will still be greatly served.
I believe there is one issue, however, where I am uniquely qualified.
As it stands, Mike Madigan will have essentially unchecked power come
redistricting. With my previous work in redistricting reform over the
past few years, I intend to fight back hard against Mike Madigan who
will seek to control the results of our elections by controlling the
maps. I believe that our maps should be drawn fairly, respecting
political boundaries, promote competitiveness and are contiguous and
compact. While the Republicans are in the majority in both chambers, I
plan to fight back hard by uniting Republicans, Democrats,
Independents and everyone who believes in free and fair elections and
demand a fair map drawing process that doesn’t take party into
account.
With your help, we can push back and, I believe, we can win.
I do not intend to become a career politician. There are a handful of
issues like redistricting and pension reform I want to pursue and then
return to private life.
I ask for your support in this endeavor. If you live in the 53rd
district, please feel free to contact me for the tele-townhall I will
be conducting 9pm Monday, November 8th. For those outside the
district, feel free to express your support by joining my Facebook
page at: http://www.facebook.com/JohnBambenek
I look forward to earning the opportunity to serve the 53rd district
and to earn your support and trust. If you have any questions, feel
free to contact me at john@johnbambenek.com
Sincerely,
John C. A. Bambenek
